Luzzy Perdomo prides her new business on accommodating all budgets with top quality cakes for occasions ranging from dinner parties to weddings. Luzzy’s Bakery opened April 1 in the Central Cape Business Park on Pine Island Road. Perdomo described her business as a Latin café that specializes in cakes. “We have a little bit of everything,” she said. “That’s why I didn’t call it a Cuban Bakery — it’s more diverse.”

Perdomo, who is of El Salvadorian descent, moved to Cape Coral six months ago by the way of Miami. Her bakery sells pastries, sandwiches and coffee drinks, which include cappuccinos, empanadas, Cuban bread and Cuban sandwiches. “When you say Latin, people assume it’s Cuban,” she said. “But we offer alternatives.” One tasty alternative is her Cuban sandwich. She said pork is traditionally used in a Cuban sandwich, but she has no problems subbing out one ingredient for another. “There are other animals out there besides pigs,” she said. Her willingness to substitute and work with what customers want is something she believes will keep her in business and put her above some of her competitors. “When they walk in, they feel good because I’m going to spoil them,” she said. “I customize orders.” Perdomo said this comes in handy in today’s economy, especially with wedding cakes, because everyone is trying to save money where they can. “I work with their budget,” she said. “I want to make money, but I don’t set prices ridiculously.” While there are a number of factors, such as size and ingredients, that determine cake prices, Luzzy’s Bakery menu prices range from 60 cents to $5.95. And the bakery offer free coffee to all of their customers. The café’s interior is filled with tables and couches and Latin music is often played on the sound system. The café seats about 60.
