1. Kiss
The case for: Their string of ’70s arena anthems, including “Rock and Roll All Nite,” “Detroit Rock City” and “Dr. Love,” still populate classic rock radio. Kiss also boast at least 24 gold LPs, sales of over 40 million and one of the most iconic concert albums ever, “Kiss Alive”—even if how much of that LP was recorded live is a notorious subject. Kiss’ unique visual style and bombastic stage show has also cast an influence on many artists.
The case against: Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons will never be confused with Bob Dylan in the lyric department. In the Kiss Army, Kiss has one of the most dedicated fan bases in rock history—but, alas, fans have absolutely no say in who gets into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (There's a fan poll on Hall of Fame website, but it's for promotional purposes only.)
Induction precedent: Alice Cooper (2010)
